The Acura Legend, the flagship sedan for Acura was sold in the USA & Canada as a mid-size luxury vehicle were manufactured in Japan. The Legend was sold as a sedan and a coupe. In 1996 Acura changed its name to the RL. The first 2 generations were refered to as the Legend the next generations will be refered to as the RL.

The 1st generation ran from 1986-1990, it offered a 2.5L &2.7L SOHC V6 engine with a 4sp automatic or 5sp manual transmission.

The 2nd generation runs from 1991-1995, the engine was a 3.2L V6 and came with 3 transmission options; 4sp automatic, 5sp & 6sp manual transmission.

The 3rd generation as the RL, and abbreviation for [Refined Luxury] beginning in 1996-2004. Engine is a front wheel drive 3.5 V6 with a 4sp automatic transmission.

The 4th generation 2005-present comes in a front wheel drive and an all-wheel drive option with a 3.5L or 3.7L engine and either a 5sp automatic or 6sp manual transmission.
