The Buick LeSabre is an old standard entry level large size sedan with a history of 8 generations of style and performance changes stretching from 1959 to 2005. It first peaked out in 1951 as a LeSabre show car, but actual production was not until 1959. The 1st generation was all chromed out although a short run until 1960. I was available as a 2 door coupe, hardtop or convertible and as a 4 door sedan, hardtop and wagon. The engine was a 250hp V8 with a 3sp manual or 2sp automatic transmission. The 2nd generation 1961-1964 offered the same body styles but lost the fins, with a larger 280hp V8 and a 4sp manual, 2sp and a new 3sp automatic transmission. The 3rd generation 1965-1970 reached out more for class with the 2dr hardtop or convertible & 4dr hardtop. The LeSabre now has 4 V8 engines to choose from; 4.9L, 5.6L. 5.7L & 7.5L and 3 automatic transmissions. The 4th generation 1971-1976 now offered a 4dr wagon to the lineup. The transmissions were reduced to the 3sp automatic but introduced the 3.8L V6 while keeping the 5.7L & 7.5L V8 engines. The 5th generation 1977-1985 [to 1988 Estate wagon] dropped the convertible but added more engine options and new 3 and 4sp transmissions. The 6th generation 1986-1991 only offered the 2dr coupe and the 4dr sedan and 3 V6 engines with a 4sp automatic transmission. The 7th generation 1992-1999 went to a high-stress plastic fenders, dropping the 2dr coupe offered a 3.8L V6 with a 4 sp automatic transmission. The 8th generation 2000-2005 went back to all metal fenders, keeping the 4dr sedan, the 3.8L V6 and 4sp automatic transmission.
